The symbols players actually use most

꧁ ꧂ and ࿐ are the most common decorations in popular PUBG and BGMI nicknames, each appearing in about one name in five. We counted decorative glyphs in a July 2026 snapshot of the 200 most-copied nicknames in the community nickname data the NickPUBG tool reads, so this ranking reflects what players copy rather than what a list author likes.

The Tibetan trail mark ࿐ ties with the Javanese bracket pair and uses a single unit, which helps explain why it survives length limits that stop heavier decoration.

Read the last two columns together: ࿐, ᭄, ★, ♛ and ༒ are popular and cheap at one unit each, which makes them the best value on this page. 👑 is the only symbol in the top sixteen that uses two.

Why your symbol name won’t save: the reported 14-character error

A decorated PUBG Mobile or BGMI name usually fails to save because it is too long once its hidden units are counted. Players widely report the message “Name cannot exceed 14 characters”; neither game publishes an official limit, so 14 is a reported figure, not a documented one.

What makes decorated names hit that error sooner is how Unicode is stored. Any character above the Basic Multilingual Plane (every colour emoji, the Egyptian-hieroglyph brackets 𓆩 𓆪 and every Mathematical Alphanumeric fancy letter) takes two UTF-16 units. The observed behaviour fits a field that counts units rather than visible glyphs. We measured every symbol on this page: 53 look like one character but use two units, while 176 use exactly one. Two whole groups (arrows, lines & separators, and Japanese & CJK name accents) contain no double-unit glyphs at all.

This also explains the frames that can never work. Five ornate wraps in our frames group use 15 units before you type a single letter, so they cannot fit under the reported cap at any name length:

What each name style really costs

Small caps, circled and wide letters use one UTF-16 unit per letter; bold, gothic, script, double-struck and monospace letters use two. That second group comes from Unicode’s Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block and halves the name you can afford.

We ran the NickPUBG generator on names of 2, 4, 6 and 8 letters and measured every preset, which gives an exact unit model instead of a guess:

The takeaway that surprises most players: the popular Royal Script and Bold Star looks only fit a five-letter name under a 14-unit cap, and the ᴮᴳᴹᴵ tag style fits four. For a longer name, small caps is the only style that keeps both the decoration and the full name, which is why ᴀʙᴄ small caps names are so common in Indian lobbies.

How to add symbols to your PUBG or BGMI name

Adding a symbol takes about two minutes and one Rename Card. According to BGMI’s official help centre (checked September 2026), Rename Cards come free from Progress Missions at levels 3 and 10 and from events, or can be bought under Shop → Treasures. Each card is consumed when used, and you can change your nickname once per day.

1. Copy the symbol or full name. Tap anything on this page; it lands on your clipboard exactly as displayed.
2. Check the length. Count emoji and fancy-font letters as two units and keep the whole name at 14 units or fewer.
3. Open your inventory in-game and find the Rename Card.
4. Select the Rename Card and tap Use to open the name field.
5. Long-press the field, paste and confirm. If the game refuses the name, remove the rarest glyph (usually a hieroglyph bracket or a newer emoji) and try again.

The game also refuses names that are already taken, so if a decorated name is rejected while a simpler version saves, change a letter instead of adding more symbols. Which symbols render safely and which are risky

A symbol that shows as an empty box on a friend’s phone copied correctly; their system font just has no drawing for that code point. Older and budget devices ship older fonts, so the risk follows the Unicode version a symbol was added in.

If you want a name that renders on every device in your squad, build it from the Japanese & CJK accents, arrows and card suits. All of them predate 2002 and all use one unit. Save the hieroglyph frames for names you mostly show on your own screen.

Clan tag and clan name symbols

The clan name field behaves like your personal name, so the symbols on this page work there too. The clan tag is stricter: it is only a few characters long and generally accepts plain letters and numbers, which is why you see short tags like ᴳᴼᴰ next to heavily decorated clan names rather than the other way round.

Are special symbols allowed in PUBG and BGMI names?

Yes. Decorating a name with symbols is ordinary personalisation and is not a bannable act by itself. What the games act on is what a name says: abusive, hateful, sexual or staff-impersonating names break the rules of conduct, whichever characters they are written in.

Penalties for inappropriate names are real. BGMI can restrict accounts for up to 90 days over an inappropriate nickname or clan name, three times the 30-day maximum in PUBG Mobile, and PUBG Mobile may rename a violating name without notice. A name that simply refuses to save is different: that is the field rejecting a character or the length, not a penalty. Swap the glyph and continue.

We will not promise you an unbannable name, and you should distrust any site that does. What we can do is be precise about the mechanics: keep the name within the reported 14-unit length, keep its meaning clean, and prefer the older symbol families above if you want it to save on the first try.

Will the symbols show up on every phone?
