The symbols players actually use most

Most symbol lists are sorted by whatever the author liked. This one is sorted by evidence. We counted how often each decorative glyph appears across the 200 most-copied nicknames in the community nickname database our tools read from — 80,322 recorded copies between them — and the ranking is not what the usual “top 10 PUBG symbols” posts suggest.

The Javanese bracket pair ꧁ ꧂ leads, appearing in about one in five of the most-copied names. The Tibetan trail mark ࿐ ties with it — and it costs a single character, which is why it survives the 14-character limit that kills heavier decoration.

Read the last two columns together: ࿐, ᭄, ★, ♛ and ༒ are all popular and cheap at one character each, which makes them the best value on this page. 👑 is the only symbol in the top sixteen that costs two.

Why your symbol name won’t save: the 14-character rule

PUBG Mobile and BGMI cap the nickname at 14 characters; going over produces the error “Name cannot exceed 14 characters”. The part that confuses everyone is that the field counts UTF-16 code units, not glyphs. Any character stored above the Basic Multilingual Plane needs two units, so it silently costs double.

We measured every symbol on this page. 53 of them look like one character but cost two — including 👑, 💀, 🔥, 🗡, and every Egyptian-hieroglyph bracket such as 𓆩 and 𓆪. Meanwhile 176 symbols cost exactly one, and two whole groups (arrows, lines & separators and japanese & cjk name accents) contain no double-cost glyphs at all.

So the practical rule is simple: pick your frame first, subtract its cost from 14, and only then decide how to style the letters.

What each name style really costs

Fancy fonts are the other half of the budget problem. Small caps, circled letters and wide letters live inside the Basic Multilingual Plane and cost one unit per letter. Bold, gothic, script, double-struck and monospace fonts are Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols and cost two per letter — they halve the name you can afford.

We ran the NickPUBG generator against names of 2, 4, 6 and 8 letters and measured every preset, which gives an exact cost model rather than a guess:

The takeaway that surprises most players: the popular Royal Script and Bold Star looks only fit a five-letter name, and the ᴮᴳᴹᴵ tag style fits four. If your name is longer than that, small caps is the only style that keeps both the decoration and the full name — which is exactly why ᴀ ʙ ᴄ small caps names dominate Indian lobbies.

How to add symbols to your PUBG or BGMI name

Adding a symbol takes about two minutes and one Rename Card. A Rename Card costs 180 UC in the in-game store, and most accounts start with one free card; more arrive through level-up rewards and progress missions.

1. Copy the symbol or full name — tap anything on this page. It lands on your clipboard exactly as displayed.
2. Check the cost — keep the finished name at 14 characters or fewer, remembering that emoji and fancy-font letters count as two.
3. Open your profile in-game, then the inventory Box section where Rename Cards are kept.

5. Long-press the field, paste, and confirm with OK. If the game refuses the name, delete the rarest glyph — usually a hieroglyph bracket or a new emoji — and try again.

Which symbols render safely — and which are risky

A symbol that shows as an empty box on your friend’s phone did not copy wrongly; their system font simply has no drawing for that code point. Older and budget devices ship older fonts, so the risk tracks the Unicode version a symbol was added in.

If you want a name that renders on literally every device in your squad, build it from the Japanese & CJK accents, arrows and card suits — all of them predate 2002 and all cost one character. Save the hieroglyph frames for names you only show off on your own screen.

Clan tag and clan name symbols

The clan name field behaves like your personal name, so every symbol on this page is fair game there. The clan tag is the strict one: it is only a few characters long and generally accepts plain letters and numbers, which is why you see clean tags like ᴳᴼᴰ attached to heavily decorated clan names rather than the reverse.

Practical pattern that survives both fields: keep the tag plain, then decorate the clan name with a cheap one-character frame — ༺ ༻, 「 」 or ꧁ ꧂ — so the name still fits. Superscript letters such as ᴳ ᴼ ᴰ are a useful middle ground because they read as decoration while remaining ordinary single-cost letters.

Are special symbols allowed in PUBG and BGMI names?

Yes — decorating a name with symbols is ordinary personalisation, and it is not a bannable act by itself. What the game acts on is what a name says: abusive, hateful, sexual or staff-impersonating names are actioned under the rules of conduct, whichever characters they are written in.

Two things get confused with a ban. First, the name filter: some characters are simply rejected when you press OK, which is a validation refusal, not a penalty — swap the glyph and continue. Second, official help text advises against special characters and emoji in names, which is why a symbol that worked for a friend last season may be refused for you today.
